Germany Work Visa

Work Visa Germany

Germany has a shortage of skilled professionals and has opened several routes for qualified people from outside the EU.

Main routes

  • EU Blue Card: for university graduates with a qualifying job offer that meets the salary requirement. Thresholds are updated regularly, so check the current figure.
  • Skilled worker visa: for people with recognised vocational or academic qualifications and a job offer in their field.
  • Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte): a points-based route that allows qualified people to come to Germany to look for work, based on factors such as qualifications, language skills, experience and age. Proof of funds is required.

The process at a glance

  1. Assess your qualification, experience and the best route
  2. Get your qualification checked or recognised where required
  3. Secure a job offer (or apply for the Opportunity Card)
  4. Prepare documents and apply at the German mission
  5. Attend the appointment and biometrics
  6. Receive your decision and plan relocation
